Born in a Santhal family like President Droupadi Murmu, Majhi grew up on a peaceful village called Raikala in Keonjhar Sadar district. Village grew up. Before entering politics as a young leader and teacher Majhi even taught for some time at the RSS-run Saraswati Shisu Vidya Mandir; he went ahead to study law later after which he eventually ventured into politics by becoming sarpanch in 1997 until 2000.

Her community belonged to Khandayat whose place could be found in OBC list.
