The MPRP started off well but fizzled out and eventually merged with Congress Party. Consequently, this marked end point of Pawan’s first political outing.
In 2014, Kayan established his own political party, JSP, but it did not contest the elections of that year. Instead he supported the TDP-BJP alliance which came to power.
During 2019 JSP contested its first Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Andhra Pradesh independently. The party had a very shameful defeat as Kalyan himself lost in both assembly constituencies where he had contested i.e. Gajuwakar in Visakhapatnam and Bhimavaram in West Godavari . Rajo Assembly constituency (SC reserved) was the only seat won by the party but then MLA defected into YSR Congress party.
Despite losing at the polls, Kayan did not waver on this point. On various counts Pawan Kalyan has shown resentment against Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy and ruling YSRCP.
In late 2022, he started “Jana Vani”, a series of small public meetings aimed at hearing out people’s concerns. “He is one politician….” Said Businessline- despite failing to win the election in 2019 they are still committed fighting for public issues.
This led to a situation where when YSRCP government suppressed one such meeting in Visakhapatnam and arrested JSP cadres; it facilitated reconciliation between TDP chief Naidu and Pawan Kalyan.
Although there was no positive response from these leaders Kayan continued reaching out to BJP leaders including Amit Shah and JP Nadda.
Finally, Kalyan succeeded in forging an alliance between the TDP, JSP and the BJP announcing their pre-poll alliance in March.
