The move comes after an incident last month in which two four-year-old girls were sexually assaulted by a male attendant in a school washroom in Bhadrapur.
September 5, Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde inaugurated the “Central School Control Room” of MBMC through video conferencing. The facility is located at the Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar Auditorium in Mira Bhayander and aims to improve student safety By monitoring CCTV footage from each school.
Municipal Commissioner Sanjay Katkar said the control room is equipped with advanced technology and backup UPS generators and is capable of monitoring nearly 1,000 CCTV cameras. He noted that the control room will monitor footage from 200 cameras installed in 36 municipal schools serving approximately 10,000 students.

The Chief Minister also stated that the state is committed to ensuring the safety of students through stricter regulations and the ‘Shakti’ Act, which seeks to strengthen measures against crimes against women and children.
By implementing these measures, MBMC seeks to create a safer educational environment in the wake of recent security issues.
