The USA cricket team’s historic progress to the Super 8 stage of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 has united Americans behind their national side.
According to ANI, Major League Cricket operating in the US praised the achievement of reaching Super 8 by the national squad.
Major League Cricket players like Andries Gous, Ali Khan, Corey Anderson, Harmeet Singh, Milind Kumar, Nosthush Kenjige, Nitish Kumar, Saurabh Netravalkar and Steven Taylor who play for team USA are also affiliated with various teams including Los Angeles Knight Riders (Ali Khan, Shadley Van Schalkwyk), MI New York (Nosthush Kenjige, Monank Patel and Shayan Jahangir), San Francisco Unicorns (Corey Anderson) Seattle Orcas (Harmeet Singh), Texas Super Kings (Milind Kumar), Washington Freedom (Andries Gous, Saurabh Netravalkar and Yasir Mohammad).
On their opening game of the season Team USA thrashed Canada. This was followed by a thrilling super-over victory over Pakistan that set them up for second spot in Group A in the main event. At last they were lucky that bad weather led to cancellation of a match against Ireland.
As per CEO of Cognizant Major League Cricket Vijay Srinivasan moving them into another round of World Cup at home is an incredible achievement. In Group 2 of Super 8 teams will include South Africa, England and West Indies for matches against USA.
“Congratulations to Team USA who gave us three exciting games against some of the best teams in cricket in world during their first ever appearance in a World Cup; thus earning themselves a place among final eight. It is an amazing moment not only for this sport but also our players from Major League Cricket who are part of our national team. This summer, we hope this inspires boys and girls across America to pick up a bat and ball, get involved in baseball or tune into some MLC action ,” he said as per the MLC release.
“They will now automatically qualify for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup because of USA’s advancement to the Super 8 providing [Major League Cricket] with a strong platform for continued growth,” he added.
Los Angeles Knight Riders, MI New York, San Francisco Unicorns, Seattle Orcas, Texas Super Kings and Washington Freedom are the six teams which have some of the best international domestic players in their squads who are also looking forward to represent their countries in World cup.
“MLC has already revolutionized the cricket landscape in the USA. The inaugural 2023 season was a huge success, with sold-out matches garnering millions of viewers worldwide. This set the momentum for the upcoming T20 World Cup and the MLC’s second season, which kicks off July 5,” according to the release.
