Nashik: A pregnant woman, two of her relatives and a doctor narrowly escaped when the ambulance transporting the pregnant woman to a district hospital exploded minutes after they all alighted on Wednesday night. Jalgaon district magistrate Ayush Prasad has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
The ambulance driver noticed smoke coming from the vehicle, immediately stopped the vehicle and moved everyone to a safe distance, and an oxygen bottle inside the vehicle allegedly exploded.
Collector Ayush Prasad said: “A pregnant woman was sent to jalgaon district hospital when the incident occurred. The driver had exited the vehicle and removed them before it caught fire. Police and traffic department officials have been directed to investigate the matter and submit a detailed report.
Inspector Mahesh Sharma of Jalgaon taluka police station said the incident took place on a flyover bridge in Jalgaon city.
“The pregnant woman is being transferred from Darangon to Jalgaon district hospital by 108 ambulance. emergency response services ambulance. We received information that the ambulance was on fire and personnel and fire brigade were deployed. Everyone was evacuated and the ambulance exploded,” the officer said.
Police reports said the vehicle was on a flyover in Dadavadi area when the incident occurred.
The ambulance driver saw thick smoke coming from the car and stopped the car on the side of the road. With the help of doctors and bystanders on the car, he quickly helped the woman and her relatives get out of the car. He also called the police and arranged for another ambulance to take the woman to the hospital.
