Interestingly, the Baramati Lok Sabha seat has been Sharad Pawar’s bastion for decades, before Ajit Pawar decided to join the Shiv Sena led by the BJP and Eknath Shinde Ajit Pawar lost the NCP and most of his MLAs after forming a Mahayutthi alliance to oust Maha Vikas.
In the recent Lok Sabha elections, Ajit fielded his wife Sunetra Pawar against Sharad Pawar’s daughter Supriya Su in Baramati Supriya Sule.
Sharad Pawar won the battle easily, Supriya Sule got 51.85% of the votes while Sunetra Pawar got only 40.64 % of the votes.
In fact, Sharad Pawar defeated his estranged nephew to comprehensively win 8 Lok Sabha seats, his best ever performance in Maharashtra.
Reviewing the poll results, Ajit Pawar said politics should not be allowed to enter the country.
“I love all my sisters. One should not let politics enter the family. I made a mistake by pitting Sunitra against my sisters. This should not have happened. But the National Committee of Parliament (NCP) took the decision. Now I think this is wrong.
