It is the first time in decades that a five-year term in parliament has been split between two rival coalitions running the government. The first one is called MVA (consisting of Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP) remained in power till June 2022, when shiva sena lead to Uddhav Thackeray Resigned as chief minister. The person who took over, Eknath Shindehimself served as Minister of the MVA until he broke away and formed the Mahayutti With the support of the government, bjp and later NCP.

Now, as voters take stock, they must weigh MVA’s record against Mahayut’s. Issues covered include infrastructure projects implemented over the past five years, welfare schemes in health and education and measures to promote industrial and agricultural development. Ongoing quota agitation, dissatisfaction over low fair and favorable price of sugarcane, onion export policy, Farmers commit suicidelaw and order, and the wave of sympathy for Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar over the supposed party split engineered by the BJP will also affect the vote.

Mahayut’s government has introduced a number of measures to appease farmers while also trying to persuade quota activist Manoj Jarange to adopt a less confrontational stance. Moreover, the alliance continues to assert that Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s faction is the real Shiv Sena and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar Represents the real NCP. On the other hand, the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi, buoyed by its performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, is expected to attack Mahayuti from two fronts: highlighting the government’s failures in resolving the agrarian crisis and portraying the BJP as India’s The main partner of the PPP.

Known as the “kitchen bowl” of the state, the BJP-Shiv Sena won just two of the eight Lok Sabha seats, a sharp decline from its sweep in 2014. It has long been the subject of political discussion and the center of unrest in the Maratha reservation due to its proneness to drought. The region has already produced four chief ministers, which could prove crucial to the fate of the alliance that ultimately takes power. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP-Senate won only 1 out of 8 seats, compared to 29 out of 46 assembly seats won by the saffron alliance in 8 constituencies in the region in 2019 6 seats were obtained. The outcome will depend on how OBC, Dalit and tribal voters, who constitute 80 per cent of the electorate, react to various claims. Farmers are the largest group of voters. But they are grappling with debt, rising input costs and labor shortages, partly due to the Ladki Bahin freebie. In the 2019 polls, the BJP’s seat count in Vidarbha had dropped to 29 from 44 in 2014.
