Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. Devendra Fadnavis, has claimed that some government employees were hired during the regime of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) to implicate him as well as other Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders with fake charges in order to have them locked up. Fadnavis made the allegations while answering questions about his predecessor on Saturday, former home minister Anil Deshmukh’s Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh.
He claimed that Uddhav Thackeray-led government tried to imprison him and his companions but their efforts were futile because many officials refused to file false cases against them. He alleged several attempts were made to arrest BJP leaders on concocted charges.
“Whatever he (Singh) said about my arrest and that of other BJP leaders is completely true. He was talking about one case only but there have been four such instances where people had planned how I would be arrested on a false case,” Fadnavis said.
“But at that time we were able to catch those plots and today these video evidences are available even with CBI….we also provided this video evidence to CBI in the past,” he added.
Fadnavis also accused certain officers of being given a ‘supari’ or contract for imprisonment by the MVA Government like Girish Mahajan and Pravin Darekar among others. In addition, he hailed honest officials for foiling such attempts.
During the MVA government however some officials received supari (contract) who wanted me; Girish Mahajan, Pravin Darekar and many other leaders should remain behind bars. Although they could not do it as there were many good officials who refused Such false cases are being raised,” he claimed.
This comes amid an ongoing verbal spat between Fadnavis and Anil Deshmukh.Deshmukh accused Fadnavis of pressurizing him as the then Leader of Opposition to frame key politicians including the then Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
Param Bir Singh had alleged that Deshmukh had given a target of collecting Rs 100 crore per month from bars and restaurants in Mumbai which led to his resignation as home minister in 2021.
Late last week, Deshmukh accused Fadnavis of trying to protect Param Bir Singh by encouraging him to level allegations against Deshmukh so as MVA Government would destabilize. They managed to avoid arrest. However, both Fadnavis and Param Bir Singh have refuted these claims made by Deshmukh.
