
Madurai: madras high court granted on friday anticipatory bail To the retired Inspector General of Police (IG) Idol Wings CID Pon Manickavel in a case registered against him by the CBI.
According to prosecutors, Manicavel is accused of falsely implying that former police deputy superintendent Kader Batcha was involved in an idol theft case, leading to the latter’s arrest.
Bacha filed a petition in the high court claiming that Manikavir had wrongly implicated him in the case. The court passed an order to investigate the allegations, following which a case was registered against Manikavir.
In his petition, Manickavel said that on August 10, CBI officials came to his house and seized certain properties. He said the CBI’s actions were illegal.
He said this was intentional and aimed at damaging his image. He said he was targeted and harassed for helping international idol traffickers. Therefore, he approached the court seeking anticipatory bail.
After hearing the petitioner’s counsel and the CBI in detail, Justice D Bharatha Chakravarthy granted anticipatory bail to Manickavel subject to certain conditions.
