Just hours after the highest ever recorded temperature in Delhi of 52.3 degrees Celsius, light rain brought some much needed comfort on Wednesday to Delhiites.
Delhi has been in the grip of a heat wave for some days now.
However, while the maximum temperature has been around 50 degree Celsius, the minimum temperature has been rising steadily and even hit 30 degree Celsius.
The highest temperature recorded so far in the capital was at Mungeshpur Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, which is also an AWS that doubles as a weather station with a maximum temperature of 52.3°C in Mungeshpur area of North-West District of Delhi. This happened on Wednesday.
For several consecutive days now maximum temperatures have risen sharply over this city with AWS center recording them all.
The Met Office had previously warned that most parts of the national were likely to experience extreme heat. The India Meteorological Department has predicted a maximum temperature of 45.8 degrees today although by 2.30 pm; a record high of 52.3 degrees Celsius was registered at Mungeshpur weather station in Delhi
With air conditioners being overworked due to scorching weather conditions, power demand in Delhi is also increasing significantly. Power demand surged to an unprecedented peak level of 8,302 MW on Wednesday in Delhi said officials.
These officials claim it is the first time that electricity’s demand surpassed even the mark of 8300 MW ever since it started being supplied across New Delhi cities.
