In the finals of T20 World Cup, Virat Kohli showed his mettle by making 76 off 59 balls, having collected a meagre total of 75 runs from seven innings prior to the final and he won man of the match.
India won the T20 World cup and was praised all over the world.
Great game it was, as Rohit Sharma’s team managed to beat South Africa by 7 runs in a thrilling final match that happened on Saturday at Barbados.
Speaking about India’s win in the final, former Pakistan cricketer Ahmad Shahzad said that India never could have won if not for Virat Kohli and said people should not compare Babar Azam or any other cricketers with him because He is one of those great players who defines era. Their bowling he always seems to be taking wickets while he is playing at long-on or long-off” said Shahzad.
Shahzad explains “He didn’t score runs throughout but imagine when nobody scored he scored some runs in the final and had Virat not scored in that final, India wouldn’t have won. For Indian team as well as for world cricket it is difficult. I don’t think there’s ever going to be another player like Virat Kohli for India especially now that they’ve gotten rid of him. They’re going to miss these guys a lot.”
“If you look at someone like Babar Azam, even comparing them I think it’s wrong. So when people start comparing to others it gets really sad for me. In ICC tournaments he has got great average and strike rate. Even somebody who has an amazing strike rate batting in ICC championships shouldn’t be compared to anyone else; only himself.”
During his career in shortest format of international cricket Kohli made 4188 runs in 125 matches (including one century and 38 fifties), since his debut in 2010.
In addition, 1292 runs were scored by Virat in 35 T20 world cup games at an average of 58.72 and a strike rate of 128.81; he also scored 15 half-centuries during that period. He has the highest aggregate total in the history of this tournament (89 not out).
