New Delhi: Nar Bahadur Dahal won the Kanton-Singam parliamentary constituency with a margin of 5,882 votes to 1,739 votes, according to the Election Commission of India.
Khamdong-Singtam constituency is one of the existing 32 constituencies in Sikkim, located in the southern part of Sikkim state. The constituency went to the polls on April 19.This constituency plays a vital role in the state’s political landscape and has witnessed major electoral battles over the years.
In the 2019 Sikkim Legislative Assembly elections, Dr. Mani Kumar Sharma of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) defeated the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) candidate Garjaman Gurung in the constituency. In 2019, the vote share in this constituency was 79.15%.
In the 2014 Sikkim Legislative Assembly elections, Somnath Poudyal of the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) won the election and Dr. Mani Kumar Sharma of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) came third second.
The 2024 elections saw SDF’s Mani Kumar Sharma, SKM’s Nar Bahadur Dahal, INC’s Tanka Nath Adhikari and the BJP’s Chetan Sapkota vying for the constituency.
