On Monday, five soldiers were killed in an ambush at Kathua.
In Jammu and Kashmir’s Macedi-Billawer area A coordinated search operation is being carried out in the Katua area following Monday’s ambush that led to killing of five Indian army soldiers including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) by heavily armed terrorists during an ambush.
The attack took place around 3.30 pm on Tuesday when an Indian Army convoy was moving on a bend along the Machedi-Jindli-Malhar road.
Concealed in the dense vegetation of mountains, which may have consisted of three male criminals, the terrorists attacked using grenades and gunfire. Two bullet-riddled military trucks were discovered parked 300 meters apart on Tuesday.
Ambush aftermath also showed signs of fierce resistance from soldiers-blood stains on road, helmets, shell casings, windshields smashed vehicles or deflated tyres. Despite heavy casualties, the officers and men stayed cool and fought back fiercely preventing further damage caused by terrorists.
On a narrow road through thick forest these fighters displayed tremendous bravery and resilience. They fought back against their attackers for several hours; retaliating immediately and fighting until they disappeared into the dense woods.
Paratrooper commandos from the army’s elite troops as well as sniffer dogs have now been deployed to participate in the ongoing search operation. The drones together with helicopters are used for surveillance too.
