When sandalwood star darshan Arrested, Asks Million Dollar Question Karnataka The political world, the police as well as the public played a major role in putting one of the biggest stars of the Kannada film industry with a crazy fan base behind bars.
The murder mystery involving seventeen accused was being solved by TOI and among them was Darshan’s girlfriend Pavithra Gowda. This is when one cop stood out., Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Zone) S Girish.
“This case could have been easily suppressed if it were not for this dynamic officer. It takes guts to charge a popular film actor with murder”, said another IPS officer appreciating ACP Girish (Vijayanagar), Chandan Kumar and Commissioner of Police B Dayananda who endorsed him. Both Girish and Chandan are “heroes” to many young disillusioned police officers fed up with a system that rewards very little.
“Just look at what happened here: murder man walk into a police station and confess to their crimes. The story was believed by the field level officials at the station who then closed it off. But not Girish”. They also surrendered themselves in groups due to insecurity issues which is usual for murders happening so close together. However, their statements upon surrendering were inconsistent; besides, they were not anti-social elements.

Chandan and Girish started interrogating all four of them and soon discovered that they had made one person a scapegoat in place of Renukaswamy. Their price was going to jail. “Who gave you guys money?” asked Girish next.As it turned out, Vinay V who owned a restaurant in RR Nagar was just used as a decoy, hence he was promptly apprehended by law enforcers. In fact during investigations,Girsh along with Chandran searched for clues on how one of them called sub-inspector in Kamakhipalia about the surrender process.
According to Vinay, a close associate of Darshan, the situation went out of hand after Renuka Swamy was picked up on Darshan’s order and tortured in a godown at RR Nagar. He also said that Darshan became angry with the victim because of comments made on social media about his girlfriend Pavitra Gundam and mentioned the names of all torture cell members. Further, police have already found CCTV footage which shows a Jeep Wrangler (used by Darshan) and a Scorpio moving around where they dumped Renukaswamy’s body.
“Then it was show time when ‘Sultan of Sandalwood’ had to be arrested. Because he is well connected with politicians and is a superstar we didn’t think that would happen. However Mr Girish proved us wrong.” commented one officer. Those aides were safe as far as their homecoming from Mysore concerned; at the same time an undercover operation started to nab darshan who was being called “Challenge Star” among sandalwood circles.
It was on Tuesday morning as Darshan stayed in a luxury hotel in Mysore when an ACP Chandan Kumar-led team landed. According to the reports, when Chandan approached him at the gym’s star and requested him to go with them, Darshan replied: “I understand… it is a mess. I will drive you can proceed.”
Darshan had parked his Land Rover Defender worth INR 30 million just before the hotel. But Chandan answered, “Are you coming with us now or what will we do?” Seeing that same phrase made by his character from earlier during film shooting of his cop role, Darshan realized things were escalating and he jumped into a Police jeep. He was taken into Bangalore city shortly afterwards.The commissioner’s phone started ringing along with Girish’s. The star could not walk out of this arrest after all since this issue had reached TV screens.
This police officer said ‘no one including fans ever thought that actions would be that fast or the game would have changed.’
Girish and Chandan refused to speak about this.
