Karnataka’s Chief Minister, K Siddaramaiah on Wednesday announced that he would table a motion to rename ramnagar district as bangalore south in the cabinet. He said this after district leaders authorised their chief minister, DK Shivakumar to demand for a name change.
Siddaramaiah said that it was necessary that a decision about renaming the region be made by his cabinet. “Ramnagar district leaders under the leadership of DK Shivakumar came to meet me and they demanded that the area be renamed Bengaluru South. I told them that it has to be so It is up to the Cabinet to decide and I will submit the proposal to the Cabinet.
“If we change the name, they (BJP) won’t come back again to rename or erase anything” Siddaramaiah confidently replied when asked if bjp could change it back if they come into power. People chose us; they can’t say they will come HD Does Kumarswamy or BJP have the blessings of the people?
He also mentioned ongoing district level meetings saying: “I’ve asked all responsible ministers to hold district level meetings, janaspandana meetings We have done DCS, CROs and secretaries meetings for two days.”
On the recent ED raid, Siddaramaih maintained a neutral stance: “This is their job and we have no objection. Let them do their job legally. I don’t know if B Nagendra has been detained.”
The Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Tuesday revealed that a delegation of district leaders proposed Ramanagara district be renamed Bengaluru South taking into consideration Ramanagara, Channapatna, Magadi, Kanakapura and Harohalli taluks’ future development.
Shivakumar further explained how initially this area fell under Bengaluru District before later being divided into Bengaluru City, Bengaluru Rural and Ramanagara District for administrative purposes. He gave emphasis on the global recognition of Bengaluru and the district name remaining intact while Ramanagara stillserves as central administrative body.
