Ajay Jadeja, who had been Afghanistan’s team mentor during ODI World cup 2023, also joined heaping encomiums on them.
There was widespread recognition of Afghanistan’s historic victory against Australia in Sunday’s T20 World Cup Super Eights match, a game they won by 21 runs.
The likes of Wasim Jaffer and Mohammad Kaif were among former cricketers who commended the Afghans for defeating Australia in any format for the first time.
Jadeja posted on X “I already said – ‘Jis Din Gira Denge, Us Din Ye (Afghanistan) Badi Team ho jaegi’. Lo Phir Australia ko bhi gira diya, Congratulations @ACBofficials, many more to come.”
They scored 127 in 19.2 overs and lost all their wickets while chasing a target of 149 with Naib taking four scalps at only twenty runs and Naveen bowling three wickets for twenty.
With this victory over Australia, Afghanistan remains in contention to qualify for the semis.
This means that Australia must win its match against India on Monday while Bangladesh will take on Afghanistan.
