Pocaro: Continuous heavy rainfall over the past four days has led to a sharp rise in water levels in several dams in Jharkhand, leading to the opening of dam gates to control the situation. The authorities of five major dams in the state – Tenughat, MaisonPanchet, Patratu and Garga – Water releases have been started to prevent spills and damage.
More than 339,000 cubic feet (339,000 cubic feet) of water was released into the river Tuesday morning, nearly six times the 61,000 cubic feet released from all dams on Saturday. In the letter sent by Shashi Rakesh, senior official of the Damodhar Valley River Regulatory Commission (DVRRC), Maison, he mentioned that the Maison and Panchette reservoirs are being strictly monitored due to rising water levels. Similarly, the Garga dam operated by Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) also opened its gates due to rising water levels. Areas along the Garga River are of particular concern and people are advised to stay away from the river banks. This morning, the water level in the Garga Dam crossed 767 feet, causing the three and four gates to open by about 1.5 feet each. BSL spokesperson Manikant Dhan said the dam has six gates.
