“On Saturday, two more babies died out of the 39 rescued,” Dr Sengar said.
He added that autopsies were performed on Saturday and confirmed that the cause of death was “disease” in both cases. The family has received the body.
Both babies weighed 800 grams at birth and already faced health challenges. Dr. Senger noted that one of the babies also had heart disease.
Ten babies died the night of the fire. This latest tragedy brings the total number of infant deaths to 17.
The incident at a primary health care facility in UP’s Bundelkhand district has raised major questions about safety measures at health facilities. Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause and responsibility of the incident.
This comes after the Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday set up a four-member inquiry committee to investigate the hospital fire. Their duties include determining the cause of the fire and any potential negligence, and giving a finding within seven days.
