NTA changes rules for breaking ties JEE Main 2025: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has revised the tie-breaking rules for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2025. The new rules will only assess candidates’ performance in the exam to give a ranking. If the tie persists, they will receive the same ranking.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has launched the online registration process for the JEE Main 2025 exam on October 28, 2024. For three days, candidates can access via their registration number and date of birth. This year, the JEE Main 2025 exam will be conducted in 13 languages including English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi , Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.
JEE Main 2024: Breaking the tie rule
In case of a tie between candidates with the same total NTA marks in Paper 1 (BE/B.Tech), JEE Mains 2024 applies the following criteria in descending order to break the tie:
- Candidates with higher NTA scores in Mathematics are ranked higher.
- If the tie continues, candidates with higher NTA Physics marks will be given priority.
- If still unresolved, candidates with higher Chemistry NTA scores will be given priority.
- Next, candidates with lower error to correct answer ratio across all subjects will be ranked higher.
- If a tie persists, the candidate with the lower error to correct answer ratio will be considered, especially in Mathematics.
- Candidates with lower error to correct answer ratio in Physics will follow if necessary.
- If necessary, the lower error to correct answer ratio in chemistry will be used next.
- If a tie continues, preference will be given to older candidates.
- Finally, if all other factors remain equal, rank in ascending order of application number.
JEE Main 2025: Revised tie breaking rules
The following is Modify tie-breaking rules Applicable for JEE Main 2025.
- If candidates receive the same total NTA score, the following criteria will be used to break the tie:
- Candidates with higher NTA Mathematics marks will be ranked first.
- If a tie remains, the ranking will be determined by the higher NTA Physics score.
- If still unresolved, preference will be given to candidates with higher NTA scores in Chemistry.
- Next, candidates with a low ratio of wrong to correct answers in all subjects will be considered.
- If necessary, a lower error-to-correct-answer ratio (especially in math) will be the deciding factor.
- If a tie persists, the lower ratio of wrong to correct answers in Physics will be used.
- If still unresolved, the lower error to correct answer ratio in Chemistry will be used.
- If a tie exists after meeting all these criteria, the candidates will receive the same ranking.
