At the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Kolkata Knight Riders clinched their third title in the 2024 Indian Premier League with a resounding win over Sunrisers Hyderabad. KKR’s comprehensive triumph highlighted their versatility as a team, with numerous contributors Ambati Rayudu.
While wishing Shreyas Iyer and the rest of his teammates well, former India batsman Ambati Rayudu was subtly critical of Virat Kohli and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Speaking on Star Sports after the match, Rayudu stressed that accolades such as an Orange Cap are not enough to secure IPL championships; instead, what does is the whole team coming together. “I would like to congratulate KKR for standing tall today for Narine, Russell and Starc who too played part in this game. This is how a team wins IPL. We have seen it in past years. It’s not about wearing an orange cap that you will win the IPL but scoring 300 runs each,” he said.
Kohli had a great individual season where he won the Orange Cap after scoring 741 runs from 15 innings including one century and five half-centuries at an average of 61.75 with a strike rate exceeding-154. After this impressive showing by RCB’s captain they still could not quite manage to go all the way.
This wasn’t the first time that Rayudu had blamed RCB.In his post I.P.L thoughts after losing out to Rajasthan Royals in Eliminator round Rayudu took to X. He says that RCB lacks good management and leaders who focus more on personal milestones than needs of players thus hurting their progress.
“My heart truly goes out to all those fans who have supported RCB so passionately during all these years. If only our management & leaders placed more emphasis on team goals than individual milestones we would have won multiple titles. Secondly can anyone recall number of quality players which we’ve let go off? Force your management to bring players who will put team interests first. A great new chapter can start from the mega auction,” Rayudu had written.
