The federal minister Amit Shah stated in defense of the congress that, It has an image of a party which is anti Dalit and who feels hurt when a Dalit leader like Kumari Selja, Ashok Tanwar Hotheaded Kumari Selja who repeated her allegiance to Congress and chased away bjp making an effort to capitalize on intra party talks.
When Shah, who was in Hisar to campaign for the Congress in the Tohana constituency before the October 5 Haryana assembly elections, made reference to the reports of mistreatment of Dalit leaders within the Congress, he stated, “The Congress has always humiliated Dalit leaders. It may be Ashok Tanwar or sister Kumari Selja.”
Selja responded it is because they have elections “that is why you are finding someone like me in my party who appears to have disappointing the leadership of Congress”. Selja added, “It is time for elections. So, the home minister thinks they have done this. But other than that, there is no love for congress leaders in BJP. All my achievements today are more of Congress party, than those of Me, . My whole life I have been a part of congress.”
She further was specific about the alleged factionalism, infighting, and non presence of herself in the electioneering and promised, I shall be going from two to three days to canvass as I will be forming the Congress government inside, We inside are in Congress and We will work in the party. A Congress government will be formed and We will, form a government.
Selja also rejected the conjecture which was prevailing within the party by trumpeting the achievements made in the course of the Lok Sabha elections and asserting that her efforts will persist. “There are a hundred discussions within the party, but all within the party. For the party to win, we put in efforts to strengthen the party in the course of the Lok Sabha polls and take the fight to the people of Haryana.
BJP leaders including Manohar Lal Khattar who was Haryana’s Chief Minister have been engaging in antics to make Selja join them so that discord is sown within Congress. Khattar hinted about the supposed rifts within Congress, speaking at a rally in Garauda and even let it slip that Selja may join the BJP at some point. “He our Dalit sister is sitting at home … we are ready to make an offer and if he comes we are you ready to bring him in,” Khattar said accentuating special leaders of BJP who are keen to woo Dalit.
Nonetheless, Congress communications in charge Randeep Surjewala was the first to rule out the assumptions and assured the media that Selja would speak at the Narwana public rally on September 26. She is on a parliamentary campaign. “MP and sister Kumari Selja will also address a rally in Narwana at 12 noon on the 26th and will campaign on behalf of the Congress party. So after Rahul Gandhi and Haji Ji Under the Congress the Congress will fight and win and make the dreams of Haryana come true. Surjewala proclaimed on X Board.
Selja is still a major target of Congress Campaign despite efforts by the BJP to highlight her being missing. She speaks particularly in Sirsa, Ambala and Hisar districts this time will be very important for the partys prospects in the future elections.
