By defeating Royal Challengers Bengaluru by four wickets in the Eliminator on Wednesday, Rajasthan Royals ended Virat Kohli’s hopes of winning his maiden IPL title and for this reason the reaction of former RCB star AB de Villiers became a topic on social media.
Kohli scored 33 off 24 balls for a below-par score of 172-8 after the toss was won by RR and they chose to field, but were unable to build big partnerships from good starts.
In 18th over Mohammed Siraj (2-33) removed Riyan Parag (36) and Shimron Hetmyer(26) before they reached 174-6 with an over to spare.
Rovman Powell (16 not out) struck Lockie Ferguson for two fours and followed it with a straight six to end RCB’s winning run and Rajasthan’s four-match losing streak.
RCB crashed out of playoffs after the defeat having entered into that stage after winning six consecutive matches following their first eight league defeats.
AB de Villiers posted on X after RCB lost: “It is always painful to lose. However, as a fan, I am proud of our guys for getting us believing even when everything seemed over at the beginning of May. Surely #RCB will bounce back stronger next year and bring home that elusive tag. #IPL2024”
When RCB lost the Eliminator, AB de Villiers’ reaction was clear; he was heartbroken.

Before losing four games in succession, Rajasthan won eight out of nine opening games. On Friday they will play Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 2 with the winner advancing to Sunday’s final against Kolkata Knight Riders
