Royal Challengers Bangalore had an amazing comeback in the second half of IPL 2024 that ended heartbreakingly after a four-wicket defeat by Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator on Thursday.
In Ahmedabad, RCB fell short during the elimination game, giving their 10th loss from play-off games out of the 16 that they have played.
Meanwhile, former Indian opener Navjot Singh Sidhu commended the combined effort by Sanju Samson and Co. for ending Royal Challengers Bangalore’s four-match losing streak in the Eliminator.
Navjot Singh Sidhu also showed his admiration for Virat Kohli – who has been holding Orange Cap this far into the season, pointing out Kohli’s team gave it all but choked when it mattered most.
“There was war till death; life-death struggle; pride fight and a fight to maintain our identity. Here there is no second chance. How many opportunities were lost because of you? That is why Rajasthan Royals are deserved winner. And Big heart of Khali! This brave lion has got a very big heart inside him like a river flowing on. Congratulations. Saying wonderful winner as I deserve my husband’s congratulations to you According to them they did everything possible but some things were beyond your reach What can’t be cured must be endured! It was thus that RCB continued walking and at last choked,” Siddhu said on Star Sports.
RCB’s stunning six-game winning streak was brought to an end by this elimination defeat. After only managing one win in their first 8 matches, RCB staged an incredible comeback, winning all of their last six matches which saw them book a place for themselves in playoffs.
In addition, RCB got back into contention with Royals struggling after damaging them to 172-8 before middle overs faltered again enabling Bengaluru franchise back into contest until two wickets fell towards tail end only for Rajasthan to win with an over remaining though still a tight race for most of the second half.
Rajasthan were 174/6 in reply to 173 as Powell (16*) hit the winning runs off the penultimate ball.
