The Rajasthan Royals, a franchise of the Royals Sports Group, on Friday made public the appointment of the team’s new batting coach in former India opener Vikram Rathour.
A former Indian cricketer, Rathour joins the fray in less than three weeks since the franchise reinstated Dravid as the head coach, a coach which headed the Indian cricket of three formats to top and led the country this year to win the T20 world cup.
Rathour has been around for a long time, having switched from a former cricketer who represented India in six tests and seven ODIs to a rather in-demand coaching position. Before working for India, he was in charge of selecting players for the national team and had a coaching stint in the domestic leagues with Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.
Speaking after confirming Rathour as a part of the franchise, the Head Coach of Rajasthan Royals Rahul Dravid remarked “I have known Vikram for so many years and I have no hesitation in saying that he is very technically sound, composed and understands Indian conditions very well, thus making it logical to have him in the Royals. We have established a good working equation, which has yielded fruitful results for the country and I look forward to working with him again. As such, his experience and skills on how best to manage and help develop young players’ potential will be vital in our quest to strengthen our squad further and keep building a world class team here at received Rajasthan Royals.”
Rathour Vikram, who has been a coach for several national and international teams, says “It is very special to be a member of the Royals family.
