Every year at the IPL auction, the owners and team management of various franchises have invested heavily in the uncapped players. Through the years, many young uncapped players have fetched the big bucks, whether at the mini auction or the mega auction.
At the 2014 auction, the right-arm leg-spinner and left-handed batter Karn Sharma became the most expensive uncapped player when he was purchased by the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for INR 3,75 Cr. In the 2015 auction, Shreyas Iyer, a young batter from Mumbai at the time became the most expensive uncapped player going to the then Delhi Daredevils (DD) for INR 2.6 Cr.
In 2016, the left-handed spin-bowling all-rounder from Uttarakhand Pawan Negi, who played for Delhi in the domestic circuit, was sold to the Delhi Daredevils (DD) for a whopping sum of INR 8.5 Cr. In 2017, Tamil Nadu’s left-arm pacer T Natarajan was purchased by the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), now Punjab Kings, for INR 3 Cr.
In 2018, Mumbai Indians (MI) bought Hardik Pandya’s brother Krunal Pandya, the promising all-rounder from Baroda for INR 8.8 Cr. In 2019, because of his impressive performances in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) bought the mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy of Tamil Nadu for INR 8.4 Cr. In 2020, Tamil Nadu’s Varun Chakravarthy again became the most expensive uncapped player as this time he was purchased by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for INR 4 Cr.

In 2021, the all-rounder from Karnataka Krishnappa Gowtham became the most expensive uncapped player as he was purchased by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for INR 9.25 Cr. In the 2022 auction, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) purchased young Indian pacer Avesh Khan for INR 10 Cr as a result of which he became the most expensive uncapped player ever in the history of the IPL auction.
A year later, in the 2023 mini-auction, the Gujarat Titans (GT) bought the 24-year-old Indian seamer Shivam Mavi for INR 6 Cr. In the 2024 auction, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) purchased the Uttar-Pradesh batter Sameer Rizvi for INR 8.4 Cr and the 2025 edition saw Rasikh Salam Dar become the most expensive uncapped purchase of the season as he was bought by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for INR 6 CR.
