This time around however, it is likely that more than five uncapped players can be retained by franchises under a different category.
MUMBAI: The Indian Premier League (IPL) owners will finally meet with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to discuss the retainments before mega auction. This meeting will be held on Wednesday at Wankhede Stadium Complex, which is the home of BCCI.
According to a source, one of the main topics that will take most time during this meeting is retentions, which might not exceed five or six players; the frequency of the mega auction may be increased up to five years from three years and there might be an addition in terms of both purse and performance base increment for a player. That’s what Parami News has been told by its source. What this paper had reported is that it could go up to 130-140 crore rupees instead of 90 crore rupees.
“There perhaps comes a situation whereby each franchise keeps say two-three non-capped players from their squad for IPL season 2024 through any other slot-It’s likely to push for it. Almost all franchises have developed some uncapped players who they don’t want to lose since they invested in them over last two-three years.” stated another source.
The list of non capped player whom franchises will like to keep goes into miles. Nehal Wadhera, Naman Dhir and Akash Madhwal; Vaibhav Arora, Ramandeep Singh and Suyash Sharma from Kolkata Knight Riders; Harpreet Brar, Ashutosh Sharma, Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh from Punjab Kings; Mukesh Chaudhary, Simarjeet Singh and Sameer Rizvi from Chennai Super Kings; Nitish Kumar Reddy, Abdul Samad from Sunrisers Hyderabad; Yash Dayal, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Anuj Rawat and Mahipal Lomror from Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants will be looking to hold on to Mayank Yadav and Mohsin Khan, its pacers.
The maximum numbers of capped players that could be retained were four in total by all eight franchises with a maximum two overseas players, three Indians and two uncapped Indians prior to the mega auction 2022.
No RMT cards were allowed when two new teams came on board but this time it can have one RTM card.
Impact player rule set to stay
Despite the fact that it discourages allrounders, as reported by Parami News, impact player rule is likely to be there during IPL season 2025.
“Well! The all rounder might not develop due to this rule but so what? The broadcaster wants big scores. More players are getting tried out and there are few matches where individuals are being given a break. Finally in June India won T20 world cup after practicing this rule for 2 years in ipl. So it may continue for another year.” Said source.
