NEW DELHI: Throughout the league phase of the current IPL season, Kolkata Knight Riders have been exceptional, and their explosive opening batsman, Phil Salt has expressed hope that his team will continue to do well in the upcoming playoffs. KKR currently sit atop the standings with 9 points from nine victories and three defeats in 13 matches.
“It’s about taking it day by day and hopefully we put our best foot forward and get the momentum at the right time,” Salt remarked on KKR’s Knights Dugout Podcast.
Phil Salt has been instrumental in KKR’s successful campaign, doing some damage with Sunil Narine at opening consistently to all opposition bowlers.
Mitchell Starc left-arm pacer for KKR said that his side is eager to regain a trophy they won twice before. “I’m excited to get involved here at KKR and hopefully it will be a really successful season for us. We’re here to get the trophy and that’s what we’re aiming for and hopefully we’re going to do exactly that,” Starc stated.
The Australian speedster also discussed his return to the IPL after a decade-long absence. “It’s been a while since I’ve been here. Was supposed to be here with KKR in 2018 but I got injured. So it’s exciting to be back and looking forward to it.”
Phil Salt also shared his experience of being selected for England team for first time, saying; “That was my first experience at being flooded with messages on my phone. I’m generally not someone who uses their phone much but it was an amazing experience. My phone was buzzing with congratulatory messages; it was so nice.”
He recounted a story about facing Jofra Archer in nets; “I think Jofra is quickest I have faced so far in nets even when hit him over 18 yards which he bowls three bouncers an over at 150 plus kms per hour. It’s good because it helps sharpen the reflexes but there have been times when he’s hit me right before the match day and then all hell has broken loose,” Phil Salt revealed.
KKR will face second-placed Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati on May 19, the final day of the league stage.
