New Delhi: Delhi University Invited Prime Minister Modi lay the foundation for his proposal East and West Campus A college will be named after Veer Savarkar on Friday, sources in DU said, in a major move in the university’s expansion plans.
The university has campuses in north and south Delhi and will expand its reach by establishing new campuses in east and west Delhi. The proposed east campus will be located at Surajmal Viharwhile the West Campus will be in dwarka. Besides, a new college is being developed in Najafgarh, which may be named after Veer Savarkar.
Sources revealed that the construction cost of the east campus is expected to be Rs 373 crore, while the construction cost of the west campus is expected to be Rs 107 crore. The proposed Najafgarh academy is expected to require an investment of another Rs 100 crore.
University sources confirmed that an invitation had been extended to the Prime Minister’s Office. Awaiting confirmation.
The creation of these campuses was approved by the DU Executive Council in 2021 as part of a wider plan to expand the university’s academic services and infrastructure.
“In addition to the campus, two new colleges are proposed. This is part of the university’s comprehensive plan to expand its reach, diversify its academic offerings and accommodate the growing number of students seeking higher education in the nation’s capital. As this A key aspect of expansion, more professional courses and dedicated legal centers are also being considered,” an official said.
In 2021, DU has also decided to name the new college after two important national figures, Veer Savarkar and Sushma Swaraj. DU Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh Authorized to choose a name for the new college, other possible names include Swami Vivekananda, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Savitribai Phule. Land has been allocated for two new colleges in Najafgarh and Fatehpur Beri, areas undergoing rapid urban development.
