Colonel Manpreet Singh of the Indian Army was killed in a terrorist attack that took place in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
He was posthumously awarded with the Kirti Chakra on last year September 30, Independence Day.
There were three army personnel who received the Kirti Chakra: Rifleman Ravi Kumar as well as Major M Naidu.
The late Colonel Manpreet Singh was commanding officer of 19 national rifle team (RR) Battalion and at his death, he had only four months to go before completing his tenure with RR.
Colonel Manpreet hailed from Balenjian; it is a small village near Chandigarh in Punjab and his family resides in DLF, New Chandigarh.
Jagmeet Grewal is an economics lecturer at Haryana education department. They have two kids who are a six years old boy and girl aged two. Colonel Manpreet has been serving for about seventeen years in army. His father too served the army; after dying his mother and children lived at New Chandigarh.
