Vivek Ramasamy, an Indian Americans Republican, accused the Democratic nominee of being selective and capitalising on his Indian background amidst Donald Trump’s racial slurs that he has been throwing into the limelight. He further claimed that Indian-Americans were angry with her because she “abandoned” her Indian identity.
During a Parami News interview, Vivek Ramasamy said “Kamala’s sudden abandonment of her Indian-American identity did make many Indian Americans in the United States feel a little angry.” The vice president even asserted her leanings toward Indian Americans background when she first decided to run for office in California before adding that on the national stage now vice-president is evolving into another person for political benefits alone.
According to Ramaswamy Kamala Harris’ candidacy leans into identity politics and opens itself up to criticism as she fails to demonstrate any vision for America.
Indian Americans politician blamed Kamala Harris with this statement: “I don’t think we should rely on these racial identities at all. We are Americans. The problem is, when you’re Kamala Harris and you do lean into your identity politics, you open the door for this type of criticism.”
“However, if it were up to me, I would not use such mechanisms for deciding who will become our next President. It must be based on who we are as Americans and what we want our country to be like in future. And most important of all is that there is no vision whatsoever from Kamala Harris about how we can improve our country,” he added.
The issue of Kamala Harris’ racial identity has become central during U.S Presidential campaign. Former US President Donald Trump was once again bashed for attacking Vice-President Kamala Harris personally as well as referring to her as someone whose ‘Indian ancestor’ suddenly went ‘black.’
Kamala Harris was born from Jamaican father and an Indian mother which means she isfirst African American Female Vice President and first Asian American Vice President. If she wins the upcoming election, she will become the first female president of the United States.
