Buzzing and bustling Eisenhower Park New Yorkof Nassau County, as of June 12. Also, the Indian team played three games at a temporary stadium in the city, one of three venues in America hosting the World Cup. The climax was on June 9 when India clashed with Pakistan. However, within that period of six weeks time, the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium will be no more.
On June 12th this year, it hosted its last match – India vs USA- and soon after the crowd left following the T20 party leaving only heavy machinery sounds within the venue. By nightfall bulldozers were lined up outside waiting for orders to return flat ground again from a makeshift stadium which had accommodated 34,000 people.
However, during a period of 106 days leading to the start of play on June 2nd it took about six weeks to put up so as dismantle.
The ground will always evoke memories for local Indians and fans from across the globe when Rohit Sharma’s boys staged a brilliant comeback to beat Pakistan by six runs. Three wickets by ‘Man of Match’ Jasprit Bumrah saw India confine Pakistan to just one hundred thirteen runs where they defended their title with a mere total of hundred nineteen runs.
It should be noted though that low scoring matches have made do-it-yourself bowling controversial thus showing that ICC also admits they were not what was expected from them. All in all however, destiny may have something better than destiny for this stadium.
“If they wish to keep them (the plug-and-play pitches) and maintain them properly then they can,” said ICC officials quoted by Cricbuzz Reports . Similarly if this cannot be done by local authorities then ICC The courts shall be moved where they can be used.
According to reports however event organizers have shown no interest; therefore there is no hope of the stadium hosting Major League Cricket (MLC) matches.
So, apart from West Indies which was the host nation, United States also hosted 16 group stage games.
These other two venues are Grande Prairie Stadium in Dallas and Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf in Florida respectively.
All the remaining games will be shifted to a single Caribbean island where the second round known as “Super Eights” will take place with its finals set for June 29 at Barbados.
