New Delhi: A layer of mist covered parts of the national capital on Thursday morning, with the minimum temperature dipping to 7°C, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Thick fog disrupted railway services, causing delays in 18 trains arriving in Delhi from across the country.
Despite the lower visibility, flight operations at Delhi Airport have not been affected and officials confirmed that procedures are in place to manage the reduced visibility.
Yellow alert issued for possible rainfall
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for the day and moderate to heavy fog is expected in the morning and evening. Light to very light rainfall is also possible in some parts of the city.
Safdarjung recorded 3 mm rainfall between 5.30 pm on Tuesday and 8.30 am on Wednesday, while Ayanagar recorded 6 mm rainfall during the same period.
Supreme Court Guidelines on Limitations
In view of these circumstances, the Supreme Court directed the Council of Air Quality Management (CAQM) to impose stage three restrictions if the air quality index exceeds 350 and stage four restrictions if it exceeds 400.
