Former Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Duleep Mendis Cricket history is littered with lonely accomplishments, the unique century being scoring rather sedate runs in both innings of a test match. For Sunil GavaskarIn the month of September and 1982, a match was played between India and the rest of the cricket playing countries in MA Chidambaram cricket stadium, Madras now Chennai and Mendis made 105 runs in the first innings.

It must be underlined that in the second game, Mendis once again scored 105 runs, this time of course going back to his performance of the first game.

This unusual achievement in history deposited him as the first batsman in the history of Test cricket to score an equal number of hundreds in the two innings of same Test match.

Although that match was drawn, the highlight of Mendis’s 200 not out can be regarded at that point.

His accomplishment not only exhibited himself but also, took place as a historic event for the game.

From 1975 to 1989, he represented Sri Lanka in 24 Test matches and scored 1329 runs. Sri Lanka cricketer Mendis Duleep played 24 test matches between Sri Lanka 1989 bat.

He managed to reach out for four hundred in gluts and had eight fifty to his credit.

Mendis is recognized by the endorsers of his aggressive batting and leadership. As a batsman-wicketkeeper, he was capped 79 ODIs for Sri Lanka where he scored 1527 runs at an average of 23.49 with a maximum of 7 fifties.

A vigorous and stocky batsman whose aim is to deconstruct attacks at any level, Mendis was a vital cog to the dishes that is Sri Lanka’s developing years in international cricket.

The much expected Sri Lanka this time out tour of Indian subcontinent features but one Test and three ODIs.

The test match was drawn however the new ODI series 3–0 registered victory over India under the captaincy of Kapil Dev and here Mendis’ double century is etched in the most memorable inuendos of the tour.

Mendis later retired but became both a coach and manager, and his impact in promoting and growing cricket in Sri Lanka was remarkable.
