Bangladesh, having experienced political unrest, India must act swiftly to secure the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as she departs her country. The security agencies were prepared for any eventuality when she traveled to India on an Air Force jet.
Indian AirForce radar detected a low-flying aircraft approaching the Indian border from Bangladesh around 3 pm. To maintain safety, two Rafale fighter jets have been put into action over Bihar and Jharkhand by 101 squadron of Hashimala air force base in West Bengal according to ANI.
The airplane flew according to given routes monitored by ground agencies, communicating with senior Indian security officials through the aircraft. The two men at the helm of the Indian Air Force and Army are monitoring it closely: Air Chief Marshal Chaudhry and General Upendra Dwivedi respectively.
There was a meeting between Lieutenant General Johnson Philip Mathew, Chief of Integrated Defense Staff with intelligence agency chief General Dwivedi.
Around 5:45 pm that evening when her plane landed at the Indian Air Force base Hasina was received by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. They discussed Bangladesh’s present state as well as future plans for one hour. Later he briefed cabinet committee on security CACS headed by PM Modi which has been kept updated all day long about the situation there.
Hasina’s resignation caused chaos in Bangladesh on Monday before she absconded. Protests escalated from demonstrations against job quotas to full-fledged movements asking for her resignation before quitting office.
As news spread of Hasina’s departure, mobs hit streets and some among them vandalized her father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman bronze statue in Bangladesh too.
In his national address, army chief Zaman announced formation of interim government after having met members of most political parties and having taken over country’s full responsibility.
