The film was declared the “Breakthrough Film of the Year” at the 15th Indian Film Festival Melbourne (IFFM) awards ceremony on Friday.
“There was confusion as to whether direct-to-digital films should be allowed to participate in the National Awards, but I think there has been a ruling now in favor of direct-to-digital films. I hope for the National Awards,” Amar Singh told PTI in Melbourne. Chamkila” will receive the award.
“Gulmohar” is a film about a family preparing to bid farewell to their ancestral home. The film won three National Awards for Best Hindi Film in 2022 and was directed by Rahul V Chitella. ) for Best Dialogue Screenplay and a Special Mention for actor Manoj Bajpayee. It releases on Disney+ Hotstar in 2023.

“What I personally like about the film is that it’s made up of metros and mini-metros, and it goes into the heart of India, where most of the population lives. I hope the people of this country will appreciate that, ” he said when asked if the film would go on to win the National Award next year.
He said that winning the “Breakthrough Film of the Year” award at IFFM for his film means a lot to Ali.
“The recognition I seek is warmth and popularity among audiences as a filmmaker. (But) winning the award does make me happy. I hope the popularity of the film is also reflected in the award. I trust everyone in the unit Everyone will be delighted with this award and hope that the ‘Breakthrough Film’ Award will start a trend.
Apart from Amar Singh Chamkila, another film related to Ali is currently attracting attention. The 2018 film Leila Majnu, which has been a cult hit for years after a lukewarm reception at the box office, was re-released in theaters last week.
The filmmaker, who co-produced and co-produced the film with director brother Sajid Ali, said he was grateful to the audience for showing so much love to Laila Majnu.
“I’m happy that people can watch my movies anytime, just like I watch many of my favorite movies made by other filmmakers over and over again. It’s almost a paradox that after a movie premieres in theaters, then it Once you walk out of the theater, you usually never come back, so you always miss watching a movie on the big screen.
“The only option is to watch it on the platform. But being able to watch it on the big screen is amazing and I feel so grateful for the audience because this is a people-led movement. People asked for ‘Rockstar’ first and then ‘ Laila Majnu’,” he added.
Ali is already working on multiple scripts, but he has yet to decide which one will catch the flight first.
“There will be a male-female relationship[at the center]but it’s not on the expected path. There will also be some new things in the movie that I’m planning now.”
