Valsad: Gujarat still getting large amounts of rainfall, causing a lot of damage and destruction throughout the state. In Valsad two major underpasses were closed due to heavy flooding, and on Tuesday morning, the city received 3.45 inches of rain in only two hours.
Police blocked roads towards flooded underpasses while the service road of National Highway 48 has been logged.
On Monday, Junagadh district was severely hit as many roads were out of use due to heavy rains including two national highways. The area’s administration reported that floods resulted in three national highways, six major regional link roads and 40 rural roads being shut down.
“Junagadh has had three main high ways closed due to this. When water level goes down situation will be normal again. At low lying areas we have issued alerts and closed water logged roads,” said Junagadh deputy district commissioner JP Zala.
The Indian Meteorological Department announces isolated heavy rains are likely over parts of South Gujarat and Saurashtra on July 2nd while there is expectation of heavy rain in Northern Gujarat, central Gujarat and parts of Saurashtra on July 3rd.
“Surat, Navsari, valsad” is where IMD predicted “heavy rains” on July 3rd along with Daman & Dadra Nagar Haveli”.
According to IMD (Indian Metrological Department) wet weather condition across Gujarat is attributed to presence of two cyclonic circulations one each at the north and south part of state.
South Gujarat districts such as Surat, Valsad; Saurashtra-Kutch region’s Jamnagar; Porbandar are under “red alert”. Gadwal very “heavy rainfall”, Juna; Dwarka; Kutch have also been predicted.
Many Roads have been washed away by incessant rains all over the state. A big sinkhole like structure caused by falling rain water during a downpour that washed away part of the road had formed in Shela, Ahmedabad Smart City. At least there were reports of waterlogging and uprooted trees in some parts of Ahmedabad while vehicles were damaged at KK Nagar.
Also, on Saturday, a part of the overhang for passenger pick-up/ drop-off area at Rajkot Airport collapsed. As per sources from Civil Aviation Ministry, the cabin cover cracked because of water discharge during maintenance. Fortunately no one was injured in the incident and we have requested a comprehensive report.
