NEW DELHI: Former Chennai Super Kings middle-order batter Ambati Rayudu wants Mahendra Singh Dhoni to play one more IPL season as he feels the legend ‘cannot leave the game like this’.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Saturday knocked out the defending and five-time champions CSK and it came as a shock for CSK fans across the country.
And Rayudu was among one of the fans, who was hurt and disappointed by their elimination.
As Dhoni’s CSK bowed out of this edition of the IPL following a 27-run defeat, there have been speculations that the talismanic ‘keeper-batter has played his last game in the league.
“MS Dhoni should play one more season. This shouldn’t be his last, he cannot leave like this, he should play next season and win the IPL. He’s a once in a generation player and once in a generation human being,” Ambati Rayudu said on Star Sports.
In Saturday’s do-or-die clash, CSK needed 17 in the final over to qualify for the playoffs on better net run rate, but left-arm pacer Yash Dayal, after being hit for monstrous six by Dhoni first ball, held his nerves to help RCB prevail.
The defeat meant the defending champions, under new skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, finished fifth on the table this season.
Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad and RCB have advanced to playoffs.
