On Monday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi recounted how the Congress party’s bank account was frozen months before the Lok Sabha elections.
While addressing an Indian diaspora event in Virginia, one of the Congress party leaders stated that due to the freezing of bank accounts, his party was left without money even for advertisement campaigns or transportation of the leaders.
Rahul recalls of Malika Junhag, the treasurer did not have any conviction regarding the next course of action.
“Unki toh, hawa likal gayi thi (lost confidence in what to do next),” Rahul said.
Rahul said that even though he had contested many elections in the past, this is the first time that they are faced with the fact that all their bank accounts have been seized. “This is the first time in my life that all bank accounts have been blocked. I said, ‘dekhi jayegi, dekhte hain kya hota hai’ (we’ll wait and see what happens). This is the spirit of our fight against the epidemic. Election”, said one Rahul Gandhi.
Rahul drew attention to the fact that the subject at hand transcends mere politics and extends to the very basis of human rights. “The fight is about whether Sikhs are allowed to wear turbans in India. Whether the people from the community are able to go to gurdwaras or not. All the rights which people are being fighting, not only for Sikhs but every one of the religion,” he stated.
Rahul also said PM’s ‘fear’ Modi Some of the people were missing post the declaration of 2024 Lok Sabha elections result.
“Things have changed after the elections. Attempts were made by Prime Minister Modi to instill a culture of fear in the country. People went to villages, through various sources as media, income tax department they tried to create a sense of fear, one even to small medium enterprises. But, nothing worked. Fear was gone. Instantly connected. In a very straight distance with God.”
Rahul Gandhi is on a tour to the United States, now staying in Washington for two days. He also met with students and staff from the University of Texas and addressed the Indian community in Dallas, emphasizing that they are an “important link” between the United States and India.
