The Rajasthan Royals’ Sanju Samson died at the hands of the part-timer Abhishek Sharma for a paltry 10 (11) in the Qualifier 2 clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Chennai on Friday and, consequently, received harsh criticism from social media users about his performance that wasn’t up to scratch.
Samson has been poor at IPL playoffs and he continued his disastrous run of form in knockouts drawing criticism from supporters.
Samson’s side was left in a mess after he fell caught by Rashid Khan off Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the ninth over with only 40 runs on board.
After scoring just 17 against RCB during the Eliminator match, another show of failure by Samson worsened things even more for him.
Since 2013, Samson has only one half-century across all play-offs in IPL history – 9 matches – including six scores below 20.
Earlier Trent Boult and Avesh Khan each captured three wickets but SRH still managed to put up a decent score of 175/9.
Apart from Boult (3/45) and Avesh Khan (3/27), Sandeep Sharma (2/25) also claimed two wickets after RR won the toss and elected to bowl.
Heinrich Klaasen top-scored for SRH with a fifty off just thirty four deliveries while Travis Head (34), Rahul Tripathi (37) made good beginnings but failed to carry on their innings for long enough.
A busily little push came Shahbaz Ahmed’s way at fifteen balls-eighteen.
