Google just announced a new set of educational artificial intelligence tools including access to Gemini for teenage students using their school account. This is in line with the company’s aim of preparing students for an AI-powered future, while also prioritizing safe and responsible use.
Gemini for Teens: Learning Support Powered by Artificial Intelligence
Gemini will soon be available free to young students in over 100 countries as well as educational institutions. Students will receive guided learning support from AI assistants, practice materials, instant feedbacks and generating ideas. Safety features include content filters, fact checkers and videos teaching AI literacy that encourage responsible use.
New tools for educators and classrooms
Several updates have been launched by Google for teachers wanting to create engaging learning experiences such as google videosa new app that simplifies video-making and read which has artificial intelligence reading support on more than 800 books in Google Classroom among others. Other features include improve grading functionality of Google classroom and YouTube assignment suggested questions powered by Artificial Intelligence.
Enhance collaboration, integration and security
New Student Information System integration with popular LMSs now allows direct access to Google Meet for setting up courses or importing data. Additionally, 17 Classroom plug-ins were added by the company, while electronic signature capabilities were introduced for easier document signing
In terms of safety and inclusiveness, several new chat settings were unveiled by Google including limiting students’ ability to initiate direct messages; enhanced administrative controls on data security; a dark theme on the mobile version of the Google Classroom app etcetera. Besides that, fifty-one more handwriting fonts have been placed on Google Fonts.
