New Delhi: The former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir BCCI Cricket Advisory Council (CAC) and Kolkata Knight Riders’ mentor recently gave interviews for the position of national team’s head coach Tuesday roving that he will replace Rahul Dravid at the end of the Americas T20 World Cup.
Dravid signed a new deal after his initial contract ended at last years home one-day world cup. After the T20 World Cup in USA and Caribbean, he opted not to stand again.
Kamran Akmal deems Gambill as the best candidate for the national team’s head coaching job, suggesting also that India consider Ashish Nehra or Zaheer Khan to be suitable for a bowling coach role.
“Everything touching gambler shall be worth its weight in gold. Joining any group he is always going to bring success,” Kamran said.
“No foreign coach is required for team India; they have more options and talent than anyone else. No one can overpass Gautam Gambhir after him. He is such an awesome cricketer who will also become a remarkable teacher.”
“Gambier played for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). They performed very well under him. He became a mentor for KKR and they became champions. They is a great planner and has a great cricket mind.
He added, “He should be given charge of Indian team coaching; therefore, he should be made head coach. We can choose Ashish Nehra or Zaheer Khan as bowling coaches.”
With India’s current head coach Dravid away with the side playing in the Americas T20 World Cup tournament, India topped Group A now playing in Barbados super 8s tournament where they shall commence on June 20th by facing Afghanistan.
Akmal described Dravid as an icon who has served both as batsman and coach of Indian cricket with honor.
“Rahul Dravid has done so much for the Indian cricket. His contributions are more than just batting; he has been a coach to them. He was dealing with different formats as Indian team’s assistant coach and so on These four guys have to assist the team in whatever way possible.
“Dravid started coaching the U-19 cricket team, then went to NCA and then the senior team. Just look at his chart. He is a man who believes in roots and foundations so strong. He built his Team India.”
