The complainant is a mumbra The resident and her husband, who lives in Korla, are at the center of a legal case, the police report said, adding that the wife was a housewife and the defendant worked for a private company.
According to police sources, the incident occurred around 8:45 pm on Tuesday when the husband called his father-in-law to announce that he was divorcing his wife. He allegedly said “talaq” three times on the phone, a practice now criminalized under Indian law.
The victim immediately contacted the Mumbra police and an FIR was officially registered on Wednesday. The case was filed under Section 351(4) of the Bombay Marriage and Dissolution of Marriage Act and the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act.
Investigators from Mumbra Police Station confirmed the case is under active investigation. The investigation is continuing and no arrests have been made.
The police are collecting evidence and preparing transcripts of both parties to investigate from all angles.
