At the age of 55, former England batsman Graham Thorpe has died. It was announced by the England and Wales Cricket Board that he had passed away. From 1993 until 2005, Thorpe played in 100 Tests and 82 One-day internationals for his country, scoring 16 centuries among his total of 6,744 Test runs with an average of 44.66.
According to ECB Chairman Ian Watmore, “This is a truly shocking news and we are struggling to comprehend it.”
“Nothing seems suitable enough to describe how shocked we are about the news that Graham has passed on,” was the statement from The ECB.
‘’Not just one of England’s greatest batters but he was also a much-loved member of the cricket family who commanded respect from supporters all over the world.”
“His talent was never in doubt; over a thirteen-year international career his contributions brought joy into the lives of fellow players and fans alike at Surrey CCC as well as for England.”
“Subsequently he became an assistant coach where he led amazing victories across all forms of cricket by some of Englands best male talents.”
”Today, cricket is mourning. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife Amanda, children and father Geoff together with all other family members and friends during this incredibly painful time.”
“It is certain that his remarkable contributions to sports will not be forgotten.’’
