New Delhi: Ex congress leader Sanjay Nirupam Joined by his wife and daughter on Friday shiva senain the presence of the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Eknath Shinde.
Earlier in the day, Nirupam confirmed his decision to join the Shiv Sena, saying, “I have decided to join the Shiv Sena today. After 20 years, joining the Shiv Sena will be like ‘go home’. I will join the party in the presence of the Chief Minister (Eknath Shinde)… You know how things are in Congress today.
Sanjay Nirupam comes after Congress decided to cede Mumbai North West to Amot Kirtikar, the candidate of Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray, a member of the Shiv Sena, under a seat-sharing agreement. (Sanjay Nirupam) Relations with the party soured.
Nirupam, who represented Mumbai North in the Lok Sabha in 2009, said the Shiv Sena’s decision to field candidates in Mumbai was aimed at marginalizing the Congress party.
Congress has also withdrawn Nirupam’s name from the list of star candidates for the Lok Sabha national elections.
The leader wrote in the letter: “I have finally decided to fulfill your long-awaited wish and hereby announce that I have chosen to resign as a principal member of the All India Congress Committee. This letter may be considered as my resignation letter. Please You understand.
Reacting to the party’s expulsion letter, the former Congress leader mocked the party’s “timeliness” and claimed that he was suspended soon after his resignation.
