EXPLAINED: What is accelerated IPL auction process to be used on Day 2 in Jeddah

On the first day of the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction in Jeddah, 84 of the 577 players came on the table and 72 of those were bought, while 12 remained unsold. On Monday, the concluding day of the event, 32 more names will be presented before the auction adopts the accelerated process.
In the lead-up to the auction at the Abadi Al Johar Arena, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had updated all the franchises that after the 116th player is presented, the auction process will be ‘accelerated’.

How IPL accelerated auction works?
In a communication to the franchises before the auction, the BCCI wrote, “For your planning purposes please note, subject to timings it is envisaged that the accelerated process will start after player No. 116. The first accelerated process will cover all the players from 117-574 (577).”
Explaining the process, the BCCI further communicated: “Franchises will be asked to nominate a set number of players from this group by 10 pm on the evening of November 24.”
The players (117 to 577) nominated by the franchise will then be presented by the auctioneer.
Once that is done, the franchise will once again be asked to nominate their choice of names from among the unpresented and unsold players for the second round of the accelerated process.
