On Sunday, a commentator from eurosport by the name of Bob Ballard was removed based on his coverage on Paris Olympics. This was following sexist comments he made during the swimming event held on Saturday. This race saw Australia win the gold medal in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay.
This comment began to circulate across social media platforms at great speed.
Ballard says this in the film: “Well, they were just finishing up, you know what women are like…hanging out, putting on make-up.”
The fellow commentator Lizzie Symonds instantly criticized them as “disgraceful”.
Eurosport statement about it through Agence France-Presse goes thus: “Last night Eurosport’s commentator, Bob Ballard said things that were not appropriate. We have taken him off our list of commentators for such a reason immediately .”
Up to now it is still unclear if Ballard has responded publicly to his sack or anything concerning his comments that sparked controversy.
