Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke on the phone with Chief Advisor to the Interim Government of Bangladesh, Prof. Yunus. They discussed the subject of bilateral relations and security for the Hindu community and other non-Muslim sects in a violence-ridden country. Prime Minister Modi said that India supports a democratic, stable, peaceful and progressive Bangladesh.

A press statement issued by the government gave details about this conversation which also highlighted how important it is to ensure that Hinduism And other religions are protected, safe guarded in Bangladesh.
In response he promised that Bengali Hindus would be given priority status when it came down to protecting them all minorities by his interim administration.
The discussion also involved what direction should be taken as far as advancing our bilateral relationship was concerned given each country’s national priorities are concerned too indicated in National Priorities. The statement said the leaders agreed on the need to continue cooperation to promote development and stability in the region.
Earlier today retired Brigadier M Sakhawat Hussain who has been newly appointed Advisor to Ministry of Home Affairs of Bngladeh has pledged that any one who is found abusing or targeting minorities will face immediate legal action.
