Wrestlers’ news: Vinesh Fugat was disqualified before the final match of Paris Olympics where she was going to win a gold medal. Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, who attended with the Indian delegation, outlined how she went about shedding 100 grams off her weight to weigh less than 50 kg.
Vinesh will be disqualified in the final women’s freestyle wrestling event in Paris after losing to Sarah Hildebrandt from the United States.
Here is what Dr. Pardiwala said in the video shared by Sports Authority of India:
“Typically wrestlers compete in weight categories below their natural weight; this gives them an advantage since they are fighting weaker opponents. Prior to being weighed in early morning for matches, there are food and water restrictions as well as sweating required (which can be done through exercise and saunas among other ways).”
“The benefit of this kind of reducing is that it helps you lose some kilos, however it does produce weakness and calorie use; which hinders participation. Most wrestlers will therefore take limited water during recovery followed by high intensity workouts immediately thereafter- Energy drinks.” – energy foods which are given after weighing.”
“The nutritionist calculates what individual needs are based on her/his case and Vinesh’s sports nutritionist estimates that she should intake around 1.5 kg daily so as to have sufficient strength for competition in question. Also sometimes there is a factor of weight regain Get the following competition.
“This means that we were able to give her some amount of water to prevent dehydration because she had taken part in three games yesterday (on Tuesday) only at a time;” Going back beyond normal body mass, while coach began an ordinary process of losing weight following games almost right away after them. We knew each other very well with Vinesh because we worked together for a long time and he never doubted his abilities and went straight into bariatric surgery that night.
“But in the morning, even after all our efforts, we found out that her weight was 100 grams above the 50kg category and she was disqualified.”
“Throughout the night we tried every desperate measure including cutting her hair and shortening her clothes but it could not get us to 50kg class.”
“After being disqualified, Vinesh was given some intravenous fluids as a precautionary measure against dehydration, while normally we would have done some blood tests just to make sure everything is OK. So that process is ongoing at the local Olympic Hospital.”
“Vinesh’s parameters during this weight reduction were normal and she felt absolutely normal throughout this whole period of time.”
“After speaking with PT Usha (president of Indian Olympic Association), Vineesh had just told him that despite being in perfect health physically and medically, she felt upset that it was her third Olympics where she got DQ’d.”
WFI appeals to UWWPT Usha says
The chairman of IOA told media men that Wrestling Federation of India has sought review from UWW for Paris Olympics disqualification of Vinesh.
The Indian Wrestling Federation mounted a plea to the UWW to review their decision which denied Vinesh and IOA is strictly following this decision. I am aware that, Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala’s team of doctors have been working all night and the group leader Gagan Narang did it for her so that she could qualify for the competition.
