NEW DELHI: The Delhi government’s Women and Child Development (WCD) and health departments issued announcements on Wednesday, distancing themselves from the AAP’s much-publicized welfare schemes, promising Rs 2,100 to women and free treatment to the elderly.
The notices warn citizens not to share personal details for these “non-existent” schemes and label any such data collected by private individuals or political parties as “fraudulent and unauthorized”.
The statements, released months before a parliamentary vote, set off a political showdown, with the AAP alleging wrongdoing and government departments highlighting the risks of misuse of sensitive information, including potential online fraud.
Official notice raises red flags
The WCD department clarified in the notification that the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana promised to provide Rs 2,100 to eligible women but no official notification has been received yet. It says any physical enrollment or data collection for the program is fraudulent.

Likewise, the Ministry of Health has denied Sanjevani YujanaSupposedly intended to provide free health care to the elderly, yet it is thought not to exist. The notice further emphasizes that there is no official authorization to collect personal data for these programs and any such activity is fraudulent.
political storm
The AAP launched the registration drive with great fanfare but is now facing a political backlash. Adding fuel to the fire, BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj claimed that the Delhi health minister had confirmed that the Sanjeevani Yojana does not exist.

AAP leaders, however, maintained that the plans were a genuine commitment to public welfare and accused opponents of orchestrating a smear campaign.

Kejriwal’s counter-allegations on social media further escalated the row, with the AAP supremo accusing the BJP of planning to attack senior leaders.
He claimed such tactics were aimed at undermining the party’s outreach efforts ahead of crucial February parliamentary elections.
Election strategy or overreach?
Both the plans were announced in the AAP Budget 2024-25 and were hailed as game-changers in Delhi’s political landscape.
While the AAP promotes these commitments as a means to empower women and support the elderly, the lack of official notifications or clarity from various departments has raised questions about the viability of these plans.
Critics believe the confusion surrounding the announcements reflects poor governance by the party, while AAP supporters believe the plans could sway voters, as have similar promises in other states.
