Despite aggressive campaigns by opposition parties, the Tamil Nadu Assembly Constituencies Vikravandi and Gudiyattam were still opened by the ruling DMK.
DMK Candidates Anyur Siwa Alias sivashan mugam Won by over 67,000 votes. Siva polled 1,23,195 votes while his nearest rival PMK’s C Anbumani polled 56,026 votes. NTK’s 28-year-old Abinaya Ponnivalavan could only manage a paltry 10,479 votes.
DMK workers and members celebrated the victory by setting off fireworks and distributing sweets to people.
The Vikravandi seat fell vacant after 69-year-old DMK MLA N Pugazhenthi passed away in April this year due to a long illness. Bypoll voting held on July 10 was active, with 82.48% of voters exercising their rights. A press release issued by the district government said that a total of 195,000 people voted, including 95,536 men, 99,944 women and 15 others.
